Saints achieve the ultimate truth and Brahma attains Brahamatav. Thus there is nothing higher than wearing Rudraksha beads in this world - Padma Puran

Identification of Rudraksha
Rudraksha are available from 2 mukhi till 27 mukhis. The five faced Rudraksha are found easily and abundantly. One faced Rudraksha round variety has never been found till date and is thus a myth. A variety of Rudraksha called 1 mukhi half moon is thus sold in its place which is genuine and belong to a family tree of rudraksha. This bead is found easily and price is also not high. However there are suppliers who sell this half moon variety also at exorbitant prices taking advantage of the rarity of round 1 mukhi rudraksha. Round 1 mukhi rudraksha however is the most highly sold bead and is faked in many forms by unscrupulous suppliers.
Many of these beads are made from berries and betel nuts and Areca nuts. Some have a stem implanted in them artificially to give a real look. Also some suppliers sell fake 1 mukhis which have Serpent, Trishul, Lingam etc carved on them. A real Rudraksha does not have these markings. Rudraksha having 2,3,4,6 and 7 faces are found abundantly and hence their prices are not high. Fake rudraksha are made by carving extra lines in these lower mukhi beads to obtain the rare and higher priced higher mukhi beads. Also some scrupulous people fake Gauri Shankar Rudraksha by gluing together two Rudraksha beads. But these can be again detected by little experience and awareness. Please note that the idea of informing about Fake Rudraksha is not to scare away people, but to make them aware. Genuine rudraksha sold are also available in plenty naturally. But it is the greed of suppliers to make more money that forces them to deal in fake beads. Also in the case of rare Rudraksha beads of higher mukhis fakes are sold by such suppliers to satisfy the increasing demand of these beads.
It is not very difficult to recognize a real Rudraksha. On account of its increasing importance and price, it is made artificially also and these artificial Rudrakshas are also being sold in market. Artificial Rudraksha used to be made long ago by using wild berry seeds or nuts or wood. But now this is an outdated technique and the Nepal suppliers of today are making these by carving out extra lines in a lower mukhi bead to get a higher mukhi bead, or hiding extra lines to obtain a rare lower mukhi bead and even by gluing together parts of rudraksha beads to obtain another rudraksha. Thus these fake rudraksha look externally like real rudraksha and thus have to be examined more carefully. But in these artificial Rudraksha, no facet can be made as real as the ones that are in the genuine ones and can easily be detected by an experienced eye .Here the facet (Mukh) means deep lining from the upper part to the lower part of Rudraksha. Looking at these deep linings-facets one can recognize real Rudraksha. One needs to use magnifying glass for this purpose and examine for artificially carved lines (which are generally very sharp) and glued surfaces on the bead.
There are many other criteria written to recognize Rudraksha, such as the sinking and floating of Rudraksha in the water and revolving between two coins. But it is not a correct criterion. Even an unripe but genuine Rudraksha may float in the water, and a non genuine ones made out of wood impregnated with lead or by tampering a real rudraksha may sink. Therefore, we should not bother about these suspicions and false notions. The Rudraksha should be brought from a genuine supplier who is accountable to the people, and who would accept returns. Buying rudraksha is like buying Gems in which buyers buy from a trusted supplier only and thus buyers needs to consult other previous buyers for the genuine suppliers and their experience of dealing with them, before taking a decision to purchase these beads.
Another thing to be noted is that rudraksha being a natural product, it is available in many qualities from low, medium, high to collector. A buyer should avoid low quality beads which are light weight, have broken surfaces and are unshapely and have extremely dry surface. These beads rarely provide any effect. One should go for rudraksha which are heavy, bright, lustrous, shapely and emit a positive vibration.
Nepal and Java Rudraksha
Nepal rudraksha Vs Java rudraksha
Rudraksha meaning—the eye of Rudra [Shiva] is considered to be the most potent manifestation of the Cosmic Force. Hence Rudraksha is the object of veneration and also the source to reach the higher self. Rudraksha is often believed to symbolize the link between the earth and the heaven. These beads are the seeds of the Rudraksha fruit obtained from Rudraksha trees. The Rudrakasha tree is botanically known as ELAEOCARPUS GANITRUS ROXB. Its English name is UTRASUM BEAD TREE.
Rudraksha trees are mostly found in South Eastern Asian Islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Bali, Iran, Java, Timor (Indonesia) and parts of South Asian Kingdom of Nepal. Around 70% of the Rudraksha trees are found in Indonesia, 25% in Nepal and 5% in India. Considered a major stress reliever, reducing circulatory problems and of course as the best beads, the berry (Elaeocarpus Ganitrus) was first spotted in Indonesia and is now grown in Nepal and
Haridwar , Srilanka , Malaysia.

9 mukhi from Nepal
Rudraksha beads found in Indonesia (called java beads) and those from Nepal are similar in following manner:
Criterion
Comments
Natural Hole
Both have natural hole which is a hollow cavity in the centre of the bead, which can be easily cleared manually without need of drilling.
No. of seeds inside
Both have same number of seeds as the mukhi lines. Thus 2 mukhi will have 2 seeds, 8 mukhi will have 8 seeds, 14 mukhi will have 14 seeds etc.
Range of mukhis
Both trees produce the complete range of mukhis from 1 till 21 mukhi, Ganesh, Gauri Shankar, Savar, Trijuti.
These features are not found in Rudraksha trees in Haridwar or South India/ Srilanka, where the beads are found to have no natural hole, and also a limited variety of mukhis is produced in these trees like 1 mukhi half moon, 2 mukhi, 3 mukhis only, and very few beads of 4,5,6,7 and 8 mukhis, and none higher than this.
Testimonials received
I found that I actually felt a stronger impact from the java bead which surprised me as it was smaller. The energy from the Nepal bead was also very apparent but different, kind of like the same note but a different octave for those who know music. Also interesting was the energy in both cases felt very similar to that from my red coral. Which is of course for Mars just as the 3 mukhi is also! So it all fits. Also, the difference in type of effect is quite noticeable as compared to the 7 and 14. This experiment has given me faith that the difference in mukhis really does matter and that I am not losing anything if I go with the java beads instead of the nepal beads. I will say the Nepal bead is more impressive visually, and I cannot rule out that my energy system became attuned to the java rudraksha energy type from the mala I already wear thereby biasing me to feel the java energy more strongly than the nepal.
Differences in outer structure
14 mukhi Java 14 mukhi Nepal
Nepal beads are larger in size, thorny with several projections and having deep clear mukhis. The mukhi lines are embedded deep in the outer surface. Sizes vary from 14mm- 40mm with average size 20mm.
Java beads are much smaller in size with smoother surface and mukhi lines visible as white lines from one hole to the other very close to the surface and not etched deep. Sizes vary from 2mm-20mm, with average size 12mm.
12 mukhi Java 12 mukhi Nepal
Gauri Shankar Java Gauri Shankar Nepal
Differences in properties
Scientifically there is no difference between the 2 varieties as they have similar internal structure.
It is possible that due to lesser surface area and lesser projections, effects with java beads could be visible after a slightly longer duration than Nepal beads. The effects cannot be measured using any instrument.
However testimonials and feedbacks received from clients using Nepal Vs Java beads, have been almost similar. Both have reported excellent results. So seems spiritually there is no difference.

Difference in prices
The prices of rudraksha beads are based on demand and supply . Since supply is limited due to lack of organized farming, the prices varies by demand. At present, due to awareness, the prices of Nepal beads has shown increase every season. Java beads were not promoted as much, so their prices are much reasonable at present.

How do the rudraksha beads work
Rudraksha beads work on different chakras of human body as well on different planets and invite blessings from Gods. They work best when worn on body. Touching skin is not necessary for rudraksha beads to show effect. But method of wearing is very important. Just as gems work when worn on specific fingers, similarly rudraksha work when worn at specific parts of the body in a specific manner. This knowledge is used by Rudra Centre to make powerful combinations.

This is the science of stringing rudraksha so that they work. Rudraksha are not normal beads from trees. They are alive with powers to change your life. They have power to change emotions, circumstances and path of planets in your favour. They work on diseases, thoughts and change your life the way it was meant to be - empowered, fulfilled, abundant and divine. But this science is known to the chosen ones. Just as gems do not work if not placed in appropriate fingers, similarly Rudraksha beads do not work when not strung properly.
Even the most powerful rudraksha goes in slumber when not worn correctly. If the rudraksha mala you bought brings you discomfort, makes you hyper or too emotional, it is clear indication that beads are not strung according to Rudraksha Science Therapy™. All rudraksha combinations from Rudra Centre are strung according to Rudraksha Science Therapy™. These combinations make you feel meditative, happy and alive within hours of wearing them. And within few days more of their power unfolds as beads start working on you and your life.
Can Ladies wear Rudraksha
Question as posted on Rudra Beads Societies Club
A temple priest advised me that ladies aren't supposed to wear rudraksha mala. Rudraksha is a symbol of Lord Shiva and shouldn’t be worn by ladies. Is that true? Could you please advice and shed some light on this?
Answer posted by a Club Member
Do not let the Brahmin priest whom you saw at the temple, sway you or give you doubts about ladies wearing rudraksha. There are no taboos about women wearing rudraksha. All on earth can wear rudraksha. The instinct to wear or worship rudraksha is a sign of blessing by Lord Shiva during preceding births (this is quoted in one of the ancient scriptures).
There is no Shiva without Shakti. By the same token, there is no Shakti without Shiva. Hence Shiva and Shakti are "One" and "The Same". They are two sides of the same coin : The Ultimate Supreme Goddess.
If one sees duality in his samsara then he differentiates between men and women. All rudraksha beads contain Deva and Devi. There are beads representing Shiva, Parvati, Ganapati, Lakshmi, Durga, Hanuman, Vishnu, Maa Kali, the 10 MahaVidyas, Matrikas, etc. Since the beads also represent Devi or Shakti, this means women can wear rudraksha. Lord Shiva does not discriminate between men and women, caste, race, religion, color or background. God is available to all who aspire. So is Rudraksha. Hope this helps clear your doubts.
Dos and Donts of wearing Rudraksha
All the information needed on Rudraksha is in the Shiva Purana and it has nothing to do with wearing synthetic clothing or eating canned food or drinking liquids other than water. Shiva Purana as the first book written regarding the dos
and don'ts of wearing the Holy Rudraksha as this Holy Book seems to have been written at a time of compassion in the Human History.
Parts of the Shiva Purana Vidyesvara Samhita describe wearing on different parts of body with Isana Mantra ............ Tripurusa Mantra ............... Aghora Mantra ......... Aghora Bija Mantra ........ VamaDeva Mantra and more so this is a good book to have for
research into the different Mantras also as they are named and can be found in other texts.
There is a part of the Shiva Purana Vidyesvara Samhita part 32 that goes farther to explain part of what you have asked regarding how to wear for maximum benefit and the Power of the Holy Rudraksha.
Part 32 states
A man who is abandoned or who is engaged in impious acts or who is full of all sins, becomes free from all sins by wearing a Rudraksa (on his body).
Meaning here is that it is simply necessary to wear the Rudraksha on the body no matter what your starting point and you will change to a better person ........... Holy Books states itdoesn't matter what clothes you wear or how you lead your life at the present moment ....... Holy Book states wear the Holy Rudraksha and watch the positive change.
Part of Self Empowerment is the ability being able to make sense of what people are trying to tell a person what they should do with their lives and each of us can only follow our individual paths according to our Dharma and Karma ............. so as we wear the Holy Rudraksha and chant the Mantras we become more aware and maybe we stop eating as much non veg as we used to and then maybe we change the liquids that we drink naturally and we have to be ready to accept these positive changes if they appear.
A man said to me once ......... I eat non veg so can I wear ......... I said according to holy books you can wear however you need to know that you may
stop likening the diet you are on after you have worn Rudraksha for some time. So the constant in the formula is only that you wear no matter what your status and be prepared for change.
This is not the world of the Shiva Purana however the compassionate explanations of how the Holy Beads are to be used are represented Faithfully in this book ........... however this is not the age of the Shiva Puran ......... we are in Kali Yuga and this age has different problems ......... For example it is common knowledge in our Human History not to eat Pork from Pigs due to a disease that can be transferred to humans ....... as such the Shiva Purana Vedyesvara Samhita part 43 states:
"A Devotee of Shiva shall refrain from eating meat, garlic, onion, red garlic, potherb, slesmataka, pig of rubbish and liquors."
It is not known why some of these items were mentioned as today in India there is a giant onion market and we know today that onions and garlic help the heart and blood system ......... eating non veg has been made more safe in this age so there are Hindus that do eat non veg ............. and drink liquors .......... however again if a person starts to wear the Holy Rudraksha and chant the appropriate Mantras they have to expect that there is a chance their life will change to the better.
There are cultural influences found in some of the other Holy Books written at other times in different ages when the culture was suffering a great deal and if you read the Padma Purana you will see the difference between the Shiva Purana that can be considered the Original Book of the Holy Rudraksha and one of the Holy Books that followed in a time of great difficulties in the history of India.
Difficulty in understanding the rules of wearing many times comes from mixing the information from other Holy Books with the Shiva Purana as many additions have been added by other Holy Books.

In response to a Question:
I have read that a person wearing rudraksh should lead a disciplined life and refrain from eating non-veg food and
drinking alcohol and i know this is a valid point ... now i would like to know what other such restrictions apply
or guidelines should a person (wearing rudraksh) follow so as to display complete respect
and commitment towards rudraksh (when he/she is wearing) so that the wearer derives the maximum benefit from the rudraksh he/she
is wearing .. lately some one told me that a person wearing rudraksh should also avoid drinking synthetic soft drinks and eating canned food and the person wearing rudraksh should eat/drink food stuff which are more in natural form and not in
synthetic form (completely or partially).. how true is this too? .. if this is true then upto what extent does this apply .... also the clothes which we wear are also synthetic .. right ... so how can one justify that...

Fake beads made by carving extra lines. Typically 6,7 mukhis are changed to 8-12 mukhis with this process. Or 12 mukhis are changed to 14 mukhis and more with this.
7 mukhi changed to 8 mukhi by carving 1 line.
6 mukhi changed to 8 mukhi by carving 3 extra lines. Notice the sharp carved line.
5 mukhi changed to 9 mukhi by carving 4 extra lines.

UNDERDEVELOPED 3 OR 5 MUKHI with One Natural mukhi
Below pictures are of underdeveloped 3 Mukhi and 5 Mukhi Rudrakshas which are having only one Mukh on the outer surface. On seeing the X Ray pictures of these beads one can see very clearly that they have actually 3 or 5 seeds inside. These types of Rudrakshas are available in Nepal for around USD 45. Please note that these beads are absolutely natural and no tempering has been done with the bead, but these beads cannot be considered as Eka Mukhi Rudraksha because in X Ray pictures the seeds inside these beads are more than one. In some case it is 5 seeds and in some case it is 3 seeds.

Selection of rudraksha
It is important for the bead to be healthy and well formed. Beads that have holes due to insect bites, or are lightweight due to underdevelopment do not yield results. At Rudra Centre, we ensure that you get fully formed, healthy beads.
You may choose Java or Nepal beads according to your preference. Both are effective as far as long term results are concerned. Nepal beads are large in size, have clear mukhis, look beautiful and have large surface area and hence strong intensity and quicker results. Java beads are small and wearable and hence discreet to wear. We regularly receive testimonials for both Java and Nepal beads, which proves the efficacy of both types.
Size is also matter of personal choice. Some like small sized beads, while some love collector Giant beads. We ensure that all beads are beautiful, clear and uniform.
We recommend you to consult us before preparing any combination. We have studied the effects of the beads in great detail and she is best guide to tell you what you should be wearing and how. Rudraksha for Health and Self Empowerment
The Tears of Lord Siva that are Rudraksha, are the original Vedic Beads of Power worn by the Yogis of India and the Himalayas for thousands of years to maintain health and to gain self empowerment and fearless life on their path to Enlightenment and Liberation.
The Electromagnetic Properties of the Rudraksha Beads improve concentration, focus and mental stamina. Due to these same properties it was found that wearing these Beads around the heart reduced and controlled stress levels, blood pressure and hypertension resulting in the feeling of tranquility and calmness. Rudraksha Beads were found to be ideal for focused Meditation and other Spiritual Practices.
Historically the positive effects that have been exhibited in the wearers Neurophysiology, Personality and Physical Health has resulted in their being used widely in the Eastern Cultures of India, China and Japan by Hindus, Buddhists and followers of Zen.
It is remarkable to consider that natural beads of vegetable matter from the Rudraksha Tree affect the human neurophysiology as described in Vedic Literature however recent scientific research has again found Vedic Knowledge to be correct.
Though the powers of Rudraksha have been known as a phenomenon for thousands of years in Vedic Knowledge it is only since the late 1980s that they have become more prominent particularly after the research done by a group of scientists lead by Dr. Subas Rai PHD of the Institute of Technology University in Banaras India.
A combined study to research the Biomedical Implications of Rudraksha was conducted with the Departments of Biochemistry, Electrical Engineering, Psychiatry, General Medicine and Psychology. This study proved and documented the powers and effects of Rudraksha Beads scientifically with reproducible results.
Research has proven that Rudraksha have powerful Electromagnetic, Paramagnetic and Inductive Properties that vary from the different Mukhis or facets (the different number of divisions found on the surface of each Bead). They also found that wearing or performing Japa with a particular Mukhi or set of Mukhis of the Rudraksha Beads created specific electrical impulses that are sent to the brain through the process of galvanic skin response stimulating certain brain centers that transfer information.
This Bioelectric Stimulation affects the Biochemical System in the brain creating a positive impact on the activity of neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin levels that is evidenced by the positive transformation in the personality, mindset, outlook, charisma and the confidence of the wearer.
It was also found that those wearing Rudraksha Beads were able to experience reduced stress reaction to unexpected levels that were normally possible only with continued doses of tranquilizers.
In scientific terms the Rudraksha Beads are Dielectric as they store electrical energy and they have permanent magnetic properties that change with the different Mukhi Beads. The complete list of all the properties found inherent in the Rudraksha Beads includes Electromagnetism, Para magnetism, Diamagnetism and Dynamic Polarity or the ability to change polarity.
When Rudraksha Beads are worn over the heart and Rudraksha Malas are revolved in Japa they interface and integrate with the human body at a silent subtle level of Consciousness. Due to their dielectric and magnetic properties the Rudraksha Beads initiate and effect positive change in our Neurophysiology.
The Rudraksha Effect brings the wearer into the Alpha State of present moment liveing that all Spiritual Disciplines teach as the path to self empowerment, fearless life, Enlightenment and Liberation.
The Alpha State produced in the brain boosts the confidence and inner strength of the wearer significantly and as a result the heart beat, circulation, function of endocrine glands and activity of neurons and respiration is normalized in the physical body.
Supporting scientific evidence for these statements are again found in the published research papers by Dr. Subas Rai describing the beneficial powers of Rudraksha by virtue of electrical and magnetic properties that effect our Central Nervous System, Autonomic, Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems and other organ systems in toto.
It was proven that wearing of Rudraksha controlled heart beat and had a positive effect on Blood Pressure, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Palpitations and Lack of Concentration. It was also found that Rudraksha Beads have anti ageing properties based on their Electromagnetism.
Generations who have worn authentic Rudraksha Beads have repeatedly confirmed they have experienced considerable relief from the debilitating effects of high blood pressure, stress, hypertension, depression and other mind related problems including neurotic conditions leading Eastern Cultures and Traditions to attribute this relief of pain and suffering to the wearing of the Tears of Lord Siva.
In the evolution of spiritual consciousness The Holy Rudraksha Beads are based in the Absolute Field of Consciousness and manifest in the Relative Field as an eternal triggering mechanism to be recognized by the Mankind and the Womankind as we awaken to higher states of consciousness in each lifetime.
The Srimaddevibhagavat 11th Skand Chapter V parts 25 and 26 states.
According to Jabala instinct for wearing Rudraksha results only after attaining the perfection of Vedas and Blessings of Lord Siva during preceding births.
Interpretation of this Knowledge reflects the existence of a memory of Rudraksha in our spiritual evolution from past lifetimes that can be triggered in a present lifetime.
In our experience we have seen the initial Rudraksha Effect triggered by the mere reading of the word Rudraksha in print or the physical sight or touch of a Rudraksha Bead.
We have found this triggered memory affects men and women and children and runs throughout many populations in the world from 4 years of age in India to people in their 50s and older in the United States and Europe. When the Rudraksha is recognized by those who are wakening up to higher states of consciousness and remembering on higher levels there is an unexplained need experienced to have Rudraksha in their lives again.
The Vedic Puranas also show there are more powerful Rudraksha Beads from 1 Mukhi to 21 Mukhi each capable of aligning our mind and the positive energies around us to specific aspects of health, happiness, spiritual fulfillment, prosperity, creativity, intuitive ability, material fulfillment, family harmony, attraction, self empowerment and fearless life.
The Srimaddevibhagavat gives us the needed explanation from Vedic Knowledge regarding the unexplained attraction to Rudraksha Beads and modern day science shows us how The Rudraksha Effect can help all the Mankind function and perform better leading to a happy, healthy and more successful life.

Celebrities wearing Rudraksha
Mrs. Gandhi (senior) wore them; so do Yehudi Menuhin, B. K. S. Iyengar or for that matter Chandrachur Singh. Probably the best of the berries ever produced in the alternative therapies, is catching on like never before.
Considered a major stress reliever, easer of circulatory problems and, of course, as the best worry beads, the berry (Elaeocarpus Ganitrus) was first spotted in Indonesia and is now grown in Nepal and Haridwar However, because it is expensive, clinical research of its medicinal properties has not been possible, often resulting in the berry being subjected to esoteric mumbo jumbo.
Says a researcher in Pune, who has done some path-breaking work in the field. But refuses to be named. "I have found that Rudraksha helps relieve blood pressure and lessons stress. Soak it in a glass of water overnight and the next day to relive stomach disorders. Dip in til (sesamese) oil for 21 days, and apply it on your aching joints to get relief . Of course, most people who've tried this have done so along with their regular medicine ." he adds.
Sadhguru , Isha Yoga foundation Anandmurti Gurumaa The rudraksha forest at Kauai's Hindu Monastery
But "one must approach the Rudraksha with a mixture of open mindedness, and dogmatism, rationalism as well as emotion, to get positive feedback, " he says. "That's probably why many who put it under their pillow have sworn that it cured them of their insomnia."
Ancient medical texts claim that the Rudraksha can prevent ageing and can prolong life. The beads are supposed to be anti-pyretic, antihelminthic, and antiparalysant and can help balance the vital chakras of the human body which control bile, wind and phlegm. It also said to heal those suffering from hypertension and heart ailments. Besides , as it is completely without any side effects it cannot do you any harm. That explains why the old materia medica literature allows its use for menstruating women while banning other beads and malas.

There is no instant gratification. If a person who weighs 240 pounds, out of shape, just because he started dieting and walking or attending Gym from the last few days, can not expect to look like Aishwarya Roy or to turn slim and hand some™it takes time.
The distinction should be made between how much effect a given item is having versus how much effect you notice and how much your body can stand.
The initial effects of loosing negative energies, ablation of some negative karmic thoughts may be little easier to notice as feeling of slight discomfort.
Replace them with positive thoughts, and avoid needless monkey chatter of the brain by replacing it with japa or mantra recital. This process will help in speeding up the process.
In most cases it has been observed that beads strung according to Rudraksha Science TherapyTM start showing effects in 48 hours . However this time duration may be more for some people who are less sensitive or have deeper routed issues that take time to clear.
For each Yantra or Rudraksha one adds on the body, the body has to make adjustments. Probably one may not be aware of these adjustments but they take place nonetheless. Often it is both subtle and "delayed" (meaning that you don't notice until it is "obvious"). It may be even a slight feeling of euphoria.
What isn't obvious is that our brain, chakras, Nadi systems, subtle bodies and other neuro physiological mechanisms takes a great deal of pranic energy to run and adjust. The rudrakshas or other beads, are disproportionate in their overall size compared to the rest of our body, but of course proportionate to what it does.
This additional energy fields needs time to integrate with the fields already running [your "native" fields], jewelry (some stones you already have) or items, and the energy it takes to dissipate and/or neutralize "hostile" fields such as electromagnetic, karmic attachments, self generated negative thoughts etc.
Hence some times it may takes weeks or a month or two to notice the changes. But this process can be speeded up by keeping one pure, japa, surrender and a feeling that lets one say "let your (divine) will be by will".

Tips for Care
Rudraksha bead is a divine gift from Lord Shiva to the mankind for helping them to combat their miseries and sorrows. Therefore these divine beads can be worn by any body irrespective of age, sex, caste, creed, culture and location. However it is desirable that certain precautions be taken while using Rudraksha since it is a divine gift and therefore very pious.
First of all a person who wants to wear a Rudraksha, should make sure of the type of Rudraksha which is most suitable and ideal for him taking in to account his problems or desires for which he wants to wear Rudraksha. Rudraksha beads help astrologically also , however they only pacify planets , so can be worn irrespective of birth chart details.
While Purchasing a Rudraksha one should make sure that he is purchasing a genuine Rudraksha only otherwise he will not get the desirable effects. One of the best way is to purchase a Rudraksha from some authentic source only and not from any street vendors.
The beads do not work at all if not strung correctly. So one should purchase from vendors who are aware of Rudraksha Science Therapy.
While wearing a Rudraksha for the first time, it is advisable to get them energized with a proper Puja (Pran Pratishta). Those living in western countries should buy from authentic vendors who do the Puja before sending to get the maximum beneficial effects.
Rudraksha beads are worn as pendants and bracelets on wrist or Upper arm. They may also be kept in the Puja room for benefit of entire family . However wearing gives maximum results in terms of health and emotional balancing.
A Rudraksha mala, Bracelet or a pendant can be made using gold, silver or copper or simple thread.
A Rudraksha mala should be cleaned once a month after soaking in tap water for 15-18 hours. Use a hard plastic brush to remove any dust or impurities. One should never use a strong detergents or very hot/ boiling water.
Avoid wearing beads during bath as the soap and grime enters the pores of beads and are difficult to clean . Also those who wear Rudraksha should avoid Talcum powder as it enters the pores.
One may periodically apply sandalwood oil to the Rudraksha bead so that they remain shiny and perfumed. Rudraksha beads are very strong and if a proper care and cleaning is done and if protected from getting physically damaged, these beads can be passed on from one generation to another.
A person can wear more then one Rudraksha bead of the same mukhi. Alternately he can also wear a mala/ bracelet having a combination of various mukhi Rudraksha.
Rudraksha beads are a product of nature. Hence they vary in their size and colors even if they are identical in Mukhas (facets) . However this variation of size and color does not increases/ decreases the effectiveness of this divine bead.
Children may also wear Rudraksha depending on the nature of their emotional and health concerns. They respond to Rudraksha faster than adults and it makes their growing years smoother.
Rudraksha should not be worn while attending a funeral.
It is recommended to avoid wearing beads during sexual intimacy.
The best way is to keep the Rudraksha in Puja place before going to sleep and wear the same next morning only after taking a bath. It is recommended to avoid wearing the beads at night as they are uncomfortable to wear during sleep and may break.
Authentic ancient texts do not mention any taboos on wearing these beads . They may be worn while eating non veg , drinks , toilet hours , menstrual cycle for ladies provided the beads are kept in hygienic state and one does not touch the beads with soiled fingers.
Family members should not keep interchanging Neck Malas, Japa Malas or Rudraksha beads. The bond created between a wearer and Rudraksha is based on frequency tuning and hence the wearer must not share her/his Rudraksha with a third party as they lose energy immediately on contact with a different body and need to be energized again. But it can be willed and passed on to the next generation.
Purity and Identification
Tests for a Genuine Rudraksha
To meet the ever increasing demand of different faceted beads, traders have started manufacturing rarely faceted beads such as the one faced Rudraksha body (The Ek Mukhi Rudraksha). Beads of Areca nut, Nutmeg or Tulsi are used to fashion Rudraksha Beads. In such circumstances the individual who wants to buy a genuine Rudraksha is in a dilemma
There are few methods of testing a genuine Rudraksha:
Cut Test: A full proof method is to cut the Rudraksha bead horizontally. One will find the same number of compartments as that of the number of lines . However the drawback is that by this method, the bead gets destroyed.
Properties Test: The other is to find out whether the beads exhibit properties like inductance, capacitance, conduction of electric current etc.
The copper coin test: It is generally held that if Rudraksha beads are placed between two copper coins it should rotate slightly. This is due to the physical and magnetic properties of the Rudraksha beads. This test requires a high level of expertise.
Eye test: A fake or the artificial Rudraksha may look like a real one but in these Rudraksha the facets (mukhis) cannot be made as real as those present on the real Rudraksha. In a Rudraksha the facets or the mukhis means deep lining from the upper part to the lower part of Rudraksha. Looking at these deep linings (facets) with the help of a magnifying glass, one can easily recognize a real Rudraksha.
Water test: Some times a higher valued Rudraksha (Gaurishankar Rudraksha or a Trijuti) are made by artificially joining two or three Rudraksha with the help of glue etc. In case of doubt such Rudraksha should be soaked in water for 15-18 hours . A sharp discoloration will take place at the joint in case of artificial Rudraksha.
The test wherein the Rudraksha Bead dips in water (commonly known as water test) is not dependable because:
A fake Rudraksha made out of wood and impregnated with lead will sink in water thereby giving a false impression of a real Rudraksha.
Real rudraksha beads that are fresh float in water due to less density. Over time as they absorb moisture and oil they start sinking.
Source: One of the best way to get a real Rudraksha is to source it from a reputed dealer.
Rudraksha as found in Nature
Rudraksha beads are a plant product, containing carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and trace elements in combined form. The percentage compositions of their gaseous elements was determined by C-H-N Analyzer and by Gaschromatography. The result shows that Rudraksha beads consist of 50.031 % carbon, 0.95% nitrogen, 17.897% hydrogen and 30.53% oxygen.
Rudraksha is a large evergreen broad-leaved tree. Its scientific name being Elaeocarpus ganitrus, the family is tiliaceae. Altitude-wise, its habitat starts from sea-coast and goes up to 2,000 meters. Geographically it is found growing naturally and abundantly in tropical and subtropical areas. The trees are perennial in habitat. The trees are almost 50ft to 200ft in height.. According to old mythology " Siva Purana" that the favorites of Lord Siva , Rudraksha trees grow in Gouda Land which in present era is the area of the Gangetic Plain on the southern border area of Asia to the foothills of great Himalaya and middle area of Nepal. Thus, starting from Manila, passing through Myanmar, plains as well as low hills, its habitat extends to Bengal, Assam and adjoining north-eastern states, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal .In present era Rudraksha trees are basically localized in Nepal and the southern part of Asia. Although Rudraksha are grown and found in Nepal but these are mainly localized to eastern part of Nepal due to climatic suitability.
Rudraksha Plant Elaeocarpus is a large genius of evergreen trees. It has nearly 36 sister species, including Rudraksha. All trees bearing white flowers with fringed petals developing into drupaceous fruit resembling olive. The main trunk of rudraksha tree is cylindrical. Its section is circular. Bark is grayish white and rough in texture with small vertical lenticels and narrow horizontal furrows. The branches of Rudraksha spread in all directions is such a way that when growing in natural habitat, the crown takes the shape of a pyramid. The leaves of rudraksha are shining green above and dull coriaceous below. The flowers are ovoid, conical, elongate, nearly 1 to 2 cm in diameter. These appear in April-May. The fruit is globose and drupaceous having a fleshy exterior. The beads inside is hard and tubercled. The fruit starts appearing in June and ripens by august to october. Farming of Rudraksha is a difficult process due to its slow sprouting from the beads which usually takes about 1 to 2 years depending on the humidity of soil. Rudraksha is basically grown in subtropical climatic region with temperature ranges from 25 to 30 degree centigrade. Once Rudraksha are planted it starts giving fruit after 7 years and thereafter for long time. In the single tree Rudraksha beads comes in all different faces at the same time but higher mukhis or faces are vary rare to find where most of Rudraksha beads are five faces Rudraksha beads come in seasonal pattern every year around mid august to
mid October from the tree. The Himalayan Beads simply seem to be larger, heavier and more powerful due to the environment they grow in. So it is a certainty that environment and specifically the location of the Rudraksa Trees plays a key role in their growth. Rudraksha tree are easy to grow and
once established, a rudraksha tree will last for years with a little care.
Legend of Rudraksha
Ancient Vedic scriptures talk on different circumstances leading to the creation of ™Rudra™. All the epics are centered on Lord Shiva, the god of eternal cycle of creation and destruction. Lord Shiva is also known by the name ™Rudra™. According to Shiva puran, once lord Shiva went into deep meditation for a long period for the well-being of all living beings. After waking from the state of meditation, he opened his eyes and instantly tear drops fell on the earth. On reaching the ground, tear drops took the form of a seed which later grew into Rudraksha tree. Another epic boosts a different tale.
It says that there used to be a demon called ™TripuraSur™ who gained so much power that all the gods felt intimidated by him. The demon misused his power on brutally torturing the innocents. All the gods were helpless and finally turned to lord Shiva to eliminate the evils of the demon. Shiva decided to use his very powerful and destructive weapon called Aaghor to kill the demon. But on realizing the devastating effects the weapon would bring about, Shiva became very emotional and tears naturally fell down from his eyes and thus landed on the earth. Mother earth enveloped the tear drops and gave birth to a Rudraksha tree. Another tale foretells that when Lord Shiva woke up from his deep meditation, tear drops welled down from his eyes on realizing the sufferings of living creatures. His Almighty™s teardrops on reaching the earth germinated into a seed. It is believed that the seed of Rudraksha contains the secrets of entire evolution of the cosmos within it.
Lord Shiva is always portrayed wearing rosary of Rudraksha beads on his head, arms and hands. With this came the religious, spiritual, physical and materialistic significance of Rudraksha. This further brought it path to spiritual enlightenment and liberation. Thereafter ensued the use of holy Rudraksha beads by Shiva devotees. Hindu scriptures like Shivmaha Purana, Shreemaddevibhagwat, Padma Purana, ling Purana, Ashtamalikopnishad, Nirnayasindhoo, Mantramaharnava, Mahakaal Sanmhita, Rudrakshajabalopnishad, Vrihajjabalopnishad, Shivaswarodaya and Sarvollastantra ravishes on how Lord Shiva crossed the line of caste and creed and blessed all the four varnas, Brahmin, Ksatriya, Vaisya and Sudra, to use holy Rudraksha beads for their well-beings. It is also believed that if a person encounters and meets death while wearing Rudraksha, she/he will surely attain moksha, meaning liberation from all the sins.
Later the merits of Rudraksha were evidenced in the late 1960s by a group of scientists lead by Dr. Subas Rai PHD Institute of Technology University in Banaras India. Dr. Roy's research boosted that as scripted in the scriptures Rudrakshas indeed possess Powerful Electromagnetic, Paramagnetic and Inductive Properties confirmed that the healing powers of Rudraksha beads flow from their electro-magnetic properties. Many schools of yogic thoughts advocates for the religious, scientific and spiritual significance of Rudraksha.
Introduction
The term ™Rudraksha™ itself symbolizes Lord Shiva. ™Rudra™ stands for Lord Shiva and ™Aksha™ for Shiva™s tears. Lord Shiva himself is the first ardent user and admirer of Rudraksha. Later devotees and sages began using Rudraksha as a blessing from Lord Shiva himself to protect mankind from worldly sufferings and miseries. With the development of modern science, many scientists researched for evidences that support the ancient belief on the significance ofRudraksha. All the scientists came up with the findings that reassured and confirmed the divine power of Rudraksha beads. Individual from every walk of life irrespective of caste, creed, religion, nationality or gender can use Rudraksha to gain maximum spiritual, physical and materialistic benefits.
Scientifically known as Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb, Rudraksha tree is a large evergreen broad-leaved tree, which grows in the area from the Genetic Plain to the foothills of the great Himalayas and the middle area of Nepal. The main trunk of Rudraksha tree is cylindrical and has circular section. Rudraksha tree has grayish white bark and rough in texture with small vertical lenticels and narrow horizontal furrows. Its branches spread in all directions. Its leaves appear shining green externally and dull coriaceous internally. It has ovoid, conical and elongate flowers, nearly 1 to 2 cm in diameter. Its fruit is globose and drupaceous having a fleshy exterior and is light green in color. Rudraksha beads are covered by an outer shell which is blue in color and is hard and tubercle on the inside. On each Rudraksha seed vertical lines are seen running down its surface. These lines are called mukhi or ™the clefts or furrows on the surface™ and determine the type of mukhi Rudraksha. For instance Seeds with one vertical line are one mukhi Rudraksha, those with two lines are two mukhi and so on. Rudraksha beads contain 50.031 % carbon, 0.95% nitrogen, 17.897% hydrogen and 30.53% oxygen. It takes 15 to16 years for Rudraksha to mature and bear fruits. It is kept in water for a number of days and then Rudraksha is taken out after peeling off the pulp.
Rudraksha comes from 1 to 21 mukhis, but Rudraksha of 1 to 14 mukhis are commonly found. Now mukhis from 22 upwards are also found every few years in small quantity and their properties have to be researched as no reference is available in ancient texts . The five-faced Rudraksha are found easily and abundantly. Depending upon the availability and production of Rudraksha different prices have been allocated for different mukhi Rudraksha.

Research on Rudraksha
Although there is no rigorous research done on Rudraksha (may be people does not recognize its importance or due to its holy status they don't want any research) but yet, some scientist and scholars have done great job in exploring Rudraksha's medicinal and scientific parameters.
Dr. S.P. Gupta, in the year 1985 have shown that consuming Rudraksha powder orally can cure high blood pressure without any sideeffects.Mr. Vasantrao Vaidya from Maharashtra has shown that when Rudraksha is dipped into water, the electrical property of water changes. Dr. Gode have proved that Rudraksha has sterol and polyphenolic compounds and does not have any alkaloid. The Rudraksha have been found to balance/neutralize any excess charge deposited on human body.
One of the best known research papers was published by Dr. Suhas Roy of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Banaras, India.Dr. Roy's research confirmed that the healing powers of Rudraksha beads flow from their electro-magnetic properties. When Rudraksha beads are placed over the heart, they act to stabilize the heart beat. Similar to magnets, the beads work on the principle of Dynamic Polarity. Blood circulation and heart beat automatically induce a magnetic field around the body and particularly the heart region. Depending on the polarity and intensity of this induced magnetic field, Rudraksha beads transmit subtle electrical and inductive impulses with opposing polarity and intensity. Accordingly, a proportionate balancing force is exerted on the heart to regulate it if it starts beating above or below normal rates. This action helps to ensure ideal blood circulation in the body.

Scientific Properties of Rudraksha
Rudraksh Bead have Electromagnetic, Paramagnetic, Diamagnetic and Dynamic Polarity or the ability to change its polarity. Rudraksh also have Anti Ageing Properties based on their Electromagnetism.
Have certain Electromagnetic and Inductive properties and when worn over the heart they send out corresponding signals differing for different mukhis to the brain, activating or controlling certain brain chemicals and neurotransmitters thereby inducing states of mind as described in ancient scriptures. For example the mental agitation's and Dopamine levels (Increased amount of Dopamine cause over activity of neurons resulting in mental agitation, restlessness, tension, fear lack of control etc. conversely decreased levels of Dopamine, result in peace, tranquility, stability etc.) of those who wore 5 mukhi Rudraksh was found to be less and the serotinin levels (low levels of Serotinin, one such neurotransmitter cause depression, worry, lack of energy, low self esteem and higher levels of it causes happiness, energy, drive, high levels of confidence and self esteem etc. )of those who wore 1 mukhi and 12 mukhi Rudraksh bead was found to be high.
The activity of neurons in the right part of the brain was found to be high in the wearer of 14 mukhi Rudraksh bead (right part of the brain control abstract and lateral thinking as against logical and structure thinking of left part of brain). This perhaps is the reason behind the change in personality and attitudes of the wearer of different types of Rudraksh beads. When the persons gets a positive confident frame of mind the impact goes deep into his subconscious mind sending out powerful vibrations there by changing the way nature and others react to him/her.
Dyanamic Polarity-Rudraksha has the ability to-Change it's polarity. This in turn is by virtue of its property, Diamagnetism. Diamagnetism is termed as the ability of any material to acquire temporary magnetic property in presence of an external magnetic field. The polarity of the charge induced is opposite to that of the external field inducing the charge. Blood circulation and heart beat automatically induces a magnetic field around the body and particularly the heart Region. Bioelectricty automatically gives raise to Biomagnetism Depending on the polarity of the Induced magnetic field. Rudraksha bead acquires a polarity that is opposite of the inducing field. As a result of this the opening up the passages of Arteries and Veins are far better than that of magnets.
Capacitance or the Dielectric Properties -Rudraksha beads act as dielectric (i.e.) as a storage of electrical energy. This property of Rudraksha makes it capable in stabilizing and anchoring the Bioelectric current. The values are measured in units of Farad. This property is very helpful in controlling hyperactivity, palpitations of heart, streamlining heartbeat etc. Due to stress when there is increased physical activity heart beats faster and the overall activity of hormones and nervous system increases. This causes increased energy levels or increase in potential difference. As a result of this the magnitude of the Bioelectric Current increases. Rudraksha beads acting as Dielectric store this excess Bioelectric Energy, thereby streamlining the overall activity to Normalcy.
Inductance:Rudraksha beads by it have permanent magnetic properties. They have been observed to send out Inductive vibrations with frequencies measured in units of Henry (Volt Seconds/Ampere). This perhaps is the reason why people have felt better even when Rudraksha beads do not touch them physically.
Rudraksha beads act as a Stabilizing Anchor. Rudraksha beads' electrical property can be broadly categorized into:
Resistance: There is continuous and subtle flow of bioelectrical signal throughout the body due to potential difference between parts of the Body. Rudraksha beads of particular Mukhis or Facets have a definitive Factor of Resistance. It is measured in Ohms. When these beads resist the flow of bioelectrical impulses a specific ampere of current flow is generated depending on the factor of resistance. This acts in tandem with heartbeat, streamlining it and sending out specific impulses to brain. These impulses stimulate certain positive brain chemicals. Making us feel better, more confidants, poised and more energetic. It has been observed that specific Mukhis or Facets of Rudraksha beads send out specific signals acting on a particular brain chemical and thereby by effecting specific positive changes in personality. It is well proven that the state of mind and our personality is governed almost completely by the Brain, it?s functioning and that of Central Nervous System
